The organizers of the 32nd Annual Alabama Coastal Cleanup, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, need “Super Sorters”–volunteers who will help sort recyclable materials at each of the cleanup zones during this year’s event.
For the third year in a row, Alabama Coastal Cleanup partners will provide recycling at the more than 30 cleanup zones. At a Super Sorter training on August 6, volunteers will learn what to keep and what to send to the dumpster. Although the primary collection targets are plastic bottles and aluminum cans, the training will help the volunteers determine what to recycle and what to put in the trash, such as items that would contaminate the recycling stream because they are too dirty.
Organizers need 30 sorters who will aid the cleanup zone captains by managing the recycling station at each location. Super Sorters must be 18 and over, or under the supervision of an adult.
The Super Sorter Training is Tuesday, August 6, from 6-7 p.m. at 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center. Refreshments will be provided.
